¿Quién soy yo?¡Hola! or Hello! Welcome to our SGC Spanish I, II, & III classroom website, parents & students alike!
Parents: please watch our progress through the course & watch for announcements at the top of this Home page. Our calendar for the course is included in the syllabus. Students: this site will serve as a supportive materials & virtual study guide. Follow along & utilize all the practice tools published on here...they are for you! There are also links available at the bottom of this page for extra practice activities. About me, your teacher, Profesora Heglar... For my academic credentials, I have a high school diploma from Gateway Christian Schools, a Bachelor of Arts in both Spanish & International Studies from Graceland University, & a Master of Arts in Education from Union University. I am a member of the National Honors Society. In the traditional four-year timeline, I double-majored, double-minored, & graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.91 GPA in my undergraduate coursework. In my Masters of Arts in Education coursework, I graduated with a 4.0 GPA over the traditional 2 year timeline while teaching. My Masters' thesis was Language Learning & Life Impact. I hope to complete a professional doctorate degree someday. For my language qualifications beyond my B.A. in Spanish, I lived in Cádiz, Spain, taking collegiate courses at La Universdidad de Cádiz & residing with a local host family for a semester. As a student translator, I traveled throughout the whole of the country of Nicaragua over three, separate trips equivalent to a month's time, personally seeing all borders, both the Honduran & Costa Rican borders, as well as both oceans, the Pacific & Gulf of Mexico. I traveled throughout Guatemala, serving as a translator for a university trip. Also, I lived in Callao, Peru as a volunteer with World Service Corps, working with under-privileged youth & serving in the churches there. While living in Peru, I traveled the country seeing & experiencing the Amazon Rainforest, the Andes Mountains, & one of the New Wonders of the World: Machu Picchu. In my professional career, I worked as a translator in both the healthcare & financial markets for over 8 years of combined experience prior to transitioning into education. Personally, I am passionate about teaching & love waking up to go to school every day! I am a firm believer in southern hospitality, true honesty, & pure respect. I love Spanish, but also language as a whole; I hope to become a polyglot! I live for learning new things! Traveling is an adored hobby, though I have transitioned to more of a 'home body' now that I am married & a mom to a beautiful daughter. I will always call America the beautiful home. Food is a love language, and every breath is a gift! Once more, welcome! I am excited to go on this journey of language, world exploration & learning with you! |
